"Roberta" is a portrait of the artist's mother in charcoal and was drawn from live sittings. This piece is a good example of the artist's use of light and shadow. Charcoal pieces are more like paintings than drawings; while they may not be as detailed as a graphite drawing, they can often be more emotional.
